Description

Data storage on CÉCI clusters differs from that of a standalone workstation. Thanks to the shared filesystem infrastructure, users can seamlessly access the same files from multiple clusters, making it easier to move computations, collaborate with colleagues, and manage data across the entire CÉCI ecosystem. This session explains how storage is organized, how to use it efficiently, and how to avoid common pitfalls that can negatively impact performance.

Contents Information
• Overview of the CÉCI storage infrastructure
• Shared filesystems and their role in the CÉCI ecosystem
• Home, data, scratch, and project storage areas
• Accessing the same data from multiple clusters
• Data performance considerations and best practices
• Managing quotas and monitoring disk usage
• Data transfers between local computers and clusters
• Backup policies and data safety
• Organizing data for reproducible research
Prerequisite:
• Being able to use SSH with private keys
Type: Hands-on
Target audience: Everyone
Must: Strongly recommended for all CÉCI users to avoid storage-related issues and make efficient use of the shared infrastructure.
